The Wine Scholar Guild would like to announce that their own Tanya Morning Star (WSG program provider in the Seattle area through her school Cellar Muse) has embarked on an exciting project with the Consorzio of Orvieto DOC, with an aim to bring awareness to a historical wine region, it’s exceptional terroirs and wines. Acting as Orvieto DOC’s first official Ambassador of Orvieto Wines, Tanya is embarking on a comprehensive Master Class project to be launched via Wine Scholar Guild member webinar, and in schools teaching Wine Scholar Guild programs globally in 2020.

Tanya fell in love with Orvieto, the city, the land and the wines while visiting family nearby in Umbria, during this visit she was deeply struck by the great divide between the quality of the wines and their level of global recognition. Inspired to bridge the gap, the goal of the projects is to bring a deeper awareness to educators, professionals, and enthusiasts for these exceptional wines, an awareness which could not be obtained through any existing print or classroom experiences.

Recently Tanya returned to the region to complete the research phase of the project: interviewing historians and prominent figures in the region, visiting almost every estate producer, as well as every co-operative producer, and tasting virtually every wine made under the DOC of Orvieto! “Tanya is the first person ever to research the identity of Orvieto wines so comprehensively" says Vice President of the Consorzio, Enzo Barbi of Decugnano dei Barbi Estate. This is a great privilege and responsibility in Tanya's eyes, one she plans to deliver on!

The Orvieto Master Class project, embraces the inherent partnership between Wine Educators and Winemakers, as well as the power of messaging through education to shape the future prosperity of an appellation. Wine is about relationships, and Tanya is very excited to bring as many people as possible into the fold to truly appreciate the extraordinary wines and culture of Orvieto.
