Live Tasting Experience with Bodega Numanthia

Join Bodega Numanthia and WSG on February 2, 2023 at 12:00 noon ET

Join us for an exclusive webinar and live tasting experience to discover the untold story of Bodega Numanthia, located in Spain's central Castilla y León. This is the story of the distinctive bond shared between the winery and the land in the Toro region, one of the country's most historic. It is also a story of how the rugged landscape has shaped Numanthia’s spirit, turning hurdles and hostilities of the land into some of Spain’s finest and most sought-after wines.

The tasting will be led by Jesús Jimenez, Numanthia’s Technical Director. His aim will be to help uncover the mystery of how the winery navigates the local, rocky terrain where low-yielding Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) grapes thrive. Some of these vines were planted more than 140 years ago! He will also provide a better understanding of the winery’s unprecedented approach to wine making, showing why these wines can age for decades.

“Numanthia” is Bodega Numanthia’s flagship wine. Diversity of terroir is the soul of this wine. In fact, grapes are hand-harvested from over 100 parcels representing its eight unique terroirs. The resulting blend showcases this painstaking attention to detail.

The tasting will focus on three of the eight terroirs which best represent the region’s diversity. The price of the experience includes a complimentary tasting kit, complete with samples from these three individual terroirs as well as a fourth sample, the final blend, which is “Numanthia.”

Individual Terroir Tasting:

This area is situated in central Toro and is characterized by harshness and unpredictability which helps to impart fruitiness, complexity, and concentration to the final wine.

This terroir is located in the northern part of the region on a high, sandy plateau which gives the wine a generous and full expression on the palate.

This area is located in the southern part of the region and boasts vines with longer maturation periods, resulting in fresh wines with great aging potential. It is the oldest terroir and has been managed by the same family since the early 20th century.

Final Blend Tasting:

“Numanthia” is a celebration of the unique terroirs and values inherited throughout the generations. It is a subtle blend of the finest terroirs of Toro which echo the elegance and power of the region, along with an array of depth and complexity.
