Good information. Great instructor. Enjoyed course. More soil info than a lot of wine classes. But, a little too much focus on memorizing town names and AOCs. Some actual tasting, and tying that to theory/soil/winemaking/etc in addition to multiple choice on exam would have been good.some comparative tastings by varietal across regions and/countries would have helped drive home the terroir points.

French Wine Scholar program is an in-depth and comprehensive learning program for wine professionals or enthusiasts to participate. The program itself is well-structured and well-covered. I would strongly recommend this for those who are interested in French wine expertise knowledge.

Excellent course....bring on Spanish wine scholar. On that note you guys should expand, australia/New Zealand perhaps, or Germany/austria. Great concept though!

Despite of all the obstacles faced and despite of being approved in the test or not, I really learned a lot about French wine and that is going to be very useful to me as a base to go deep in visiting France wine regions and make further courses.

it was super

This was the first WSG course I took and I learned a tremendous amount from it. The depth of the online resources are impressive, particularly the flashcards, quizzes and maps.

In terms of content, I would have loved to learn more about the modern industries in each of these regions. What are their strengths? What are they struggling with? Who is their competition?

My instructor Erika Frey did a great job. She has traveled to many of these regions and could speak to what they're like to visit and also show us photos from her trips which was really fun. The class had a good dynamic -- people asked questions / were engaged.

I'd definitely take another WSG course in the future.

Excellent course covering an amazing amount of information on all of French wines.

I would highly recommend anyone in the service industry, wine industry or someone with an interest in learning more about French wine to take this course. You will be challenged and overwhelmed at times with the amount of information there is to learn but WSG and specifically the material in the FWS program breaks it down into easy to understand components. The quality of the online material and book are both of high quality as was the classroom instructor; you will thoroughly enjoy reading and learning this material.

The French Wine Scholar is an excellent program for in-depth study of French wine regions. The study manual is very well made, complete, clear and easy to follow. I particularly enjoyed the history introduction for each regions, the geographical details, the maps and pictures to understand the terroirs and the appellations.
Great online ressources as well!

This learning program is by far the most comprehensive learning about wine and terroir that there currently is on the market. The pace and material are exceptional for learning the wines of a particular region and what impacts its flavors. The instructor-led distance learning is very well done as far as time and classroom management and presentation of material and really alot of fun!

I really enjoyed my classroom intensive for the French Wine Scholar exam. The curriculum is tough, and the classroom made it less tough, I really enjoyed the class format, the instructor and my fellow classmates. It made tough material somewhat easier to absorb, and with outside study felt prepared for the exam.

Top!

I believe this is the best material for a French wine course. Everything is super easy to understand, the book is complete and usual not only for the course but for a ongoing research.

The FWS On Line Course is so well done. It enabled me to study during every minute of free time that I had. Book learning is all fine and good. But the live and then recorded webinars plus the online study program is stellar. I was able to review by listening on the go! The Puffin web browser is excellent.
Hats off to Lisa and Sharon for their highly skilled professionalism mixed with genuine sincerity . I was very sad the day of our last live webinar.

I loved the French Wine Scholar Program independent study option. The resources were excellent and engaging, and it had the flexibility that I needed in order to pursue this credential around my busy schedule and life. I would very highly recommend it to anyone who wants to really develop deep understanding of French wines and wine culture.

The French Wine Scholar program is an incredibly enjoyable scholastic venture for those interested in engaging more with the intricacies of the French wine world. Within each chapter lies a wealth of fascinating historical material to compliment the concise details on the highlighted AOCs.
5 1 5 Malcolm Lamont on Feb 5, 2019
The French Wine Scholar program widened my learning of all French wine regions, and built on already broadly-acquired knowledge from completing the Diploma in Wines and Spirits. With the Italian Wine Scholar course also completed, I am looking very much forward to the Spanish Wine Scholar!

I learned a lot and it absolutely did its job in helping me learn more about French Wines. I don't know if I passed or not, but I'm already drinking great wines at low prices because I know what to look for!

This course made it abundantly clear that I knew very little about the world of French wine. I also found out very quickly, through the online webinars, that I was enrolled in a class with passionate, perhaps even overachievers, who knew way more about French wine than me. In a live classroom setting, this can be both intimidating and discouraging. However, the beauty of this class format was that I could learn at my own pace. I was able to go back and reference not only the online modules, but the webinars also, without intimidation. The webinars helped me understand how to discern and study better, as well as learn from the other students. Sharon did a marvelous job of leading the webinars, poking and prodding, and patiently pointing us towards the important things to remember in each region. Lisa’s narrative in the modules is top notch. Hearing the French words pronounced in the modules and during Sharon’s webinar instruction was a bonus. From a technical standpoint, the website is very well laid out, easy to follow and navigate, and they employ a psychological motivator by conferring badges after each completed module. Allowing a student to stop in the middle of an online module and return to a question asking, “Would you like to start where you left off?” was not only a time-saver, but a testament to how well this site has been thought out and executed. Bravo! The tools are here to ensure a successful exam. It’s now up to me.
