Having taken an instructor lead format in person previous to Covid, I can attest the online instructor program is excellent and I retained so much information and knowledge. I feel rather accomplished with this process. The only downside is not being able to taste as many great wines when in a classroom together! I highly recommend the program.

I was most impressed by the course material, it’s organizations and the thoroughness of information. Never had there been a source as accurate and complete on all things French wines. The instructors led the course with a respect for the material that was evident of their passion for French wines. The distant learning format was very smoothly broadcast with an interactive format that did not take away from the organization of the lesson; with many online courses there is too much feedback, racket and interruption due to technical issues but that was never the case with the Wine Scholar Guild.

I enjoyed the program mainly as it covered more history, location and also food of the area. I have not got my exam results back but think the exam could have been more challenging - I hope I pass after stating that!

Thanks

The FWS is for the French passionné(e), for the wine professional, to dive deeper into the whole of France: a way of distance learning, with book, webinars on each region, e-learning seminars and flashcards for practice. I loved (and love) the interactive webinars, the description of typical foods of the area in the book, and the specials/podcasts related to France from the Winescholar website!

French Wine Scholar is a comprehensive and in-depth course to understand French wines and appellations. The study materials--manual, maps, quizzes, flashcards, online instruction and webinars--afford the serious student an excellent opportunity to learn French wines. Sharon's knowledge, easygoing teaching style, affability and patience helped to make this the best wine course I have taken. Thanks!

Great revieuw of the French wine-regions.
General important items such as climate, topografie and soils get enough attention. Grape variaties are well detailed.

I was a "tabula rasa" regarding French wine, having spend all of my life in Greece, working on a different sector. I chose to follow this program for professional reasons and to get a full knowledge of the subject. It was hard. It took loads of commitment, but to the end I feel that it has exceeded my expectations.

Pleasant and looking forward to the exam result. We heard it would take 10wks which according to me is not according to standards for a multiple choice exam that can be corrected by computer.

The program is very well balanced among the different french wine regions. It is a plus even for the wine industry professionals. Try to choose the classroom course: it will add more to your experience and it offers the possibility to share informations and opinions with educators and classmates.

The FWS was a tremendously in-depth program. It was pure joy to listen to Lisa Airey's e-learning modules and to attend the online seminars. The exam was very fair but you have to know your stuff. I loved this Tour de France which is also a true Tour de Force.
Bravo!

I enjoyed the French Wine Scholar course so much that I plan to take the Spanish Wine Scholar course as well.

Any kind of person into wine will benefit from the program. It will make you a better consumer and will really make you appreciate the history of wine, the vine, and the grape.

With excellent study materials, weekly live video lectures, and access to instructors throughout the course, the French Wine Scholar provides an incredibly in-depth education on French wine. But beware - this is no easy course and there is no way to pass it by putting in the minimum effort. But if you are serious and prepared to put in the work then this is one of the most rewarding wine programs you can complete.

WSG is a really comprehensive program, great extension of the WSET L3. I loved every moment of the study, especially the online materials.
the only negative point is that the book is available only in hard copy and cost 79USD to ship it outside from the US. Another program provider from the same region (Asia, Europe, etc.) could send the book to the students instead of the US.

Have you ever felt confused walking down the aisle of French wines at your local wine shop? How about the France portion of the wine list on restaurant menus? This is the perfect class for developing the skills necessary to decode the world of French wine. It provides the key to determining what wines from the major regions of France taste like, as well as being confidence boosting, intriguing, and a whole lot of fun! Highly recommended for fine dining staff, wine industry professionals, and hobbyists who want to up their game.

The online materials in combination with an instructor led class works well. The maps are very helpful, both on the website and in the book. The self evaluation quizzes showed me quickly where I needed to focus my study efforts, and the questions on the practice quizzes very much resembled the actual exam. The structure of the book as a whole and within each region is consistent, making it easy to go back and search for information as needed; both the French and Italian books are very good for reference and I see using them for that purpose for many years to come.

Good information. Great instructor. Enjoyed course. More soil info than a lot of wine classes. But, a little too much focus on memorizing town names and AOCs. Some actual tasting, and tying that to theory/soil/winemaking/etc in addition to multiple choice on exam would have been good.some comparative tastings by varietal across regions and/countries would have helped drive home the terroir points.

Despite of all the obstacles faced and despite of being approved in the test or not, I really learned a lot about French wine and that is going to be very useful to me as a base to go deep in visiting France wine regions and make further courses.
