A well-rounded program, with very good information provided for each of the 14 wine-producing regions in France. The syllabus builds upon the more general material covered by other exceptional wine education providers, such as the WSET (Level 3 course).
Finally, I believe classics matter, and if you would like to celebrate the wisdom of the precursors of classical wine, then the FWS certification is the go-to source for French wine education. À votre santé !

One can think that following a distance learning course on wine would be a big challenge! I don't think so, at least for this particular case - the French Wine Scholar certification course. And I took the Independent Study Format, that in fact wasn't that independent because the online resources are so amazing that I felt throughout the course as if I were closely accompanied by the people from the Wine Scholar Guild whenever I was logged. And I'm sure I was! Needed I anything, they were there to help. Studying on the book was also quite pleasurable and informative thanks to the layout, beautiful pictures and the content itself. All that I needed to delve deeply into the French Wine Industry.

The program is very terroir focused which interested me greatly and the level of detail gives a very in depth appreciation of each French region. The online resources and study aids contributed significantly to me achieving a pass. I was sceptical about the exam format being multiple choice but actually found that because of this I was forced to learn in a very detailed and accurate manner which I think will help me retain the knowledge gained into the future.

For me this has been a fascinating course. It truly allowed my to expand my understanding of all the major regions of France in a way I enjoy learning: the online teaching modules with interactive quiz-questions, together with an engaging, well put together course book, made it well-worth the money. I now have a great understanding of French AOCs. It has shown me new and interesting wines to try. Working in a liquor store as a buyer this has helped me give my customers education and encouraged them to buy wines outside of their comfort zone. Overall I throughly enjoyed the program!

This was really stellar as far as self-study programs go. The online courses and self-evaluations helped me to measure my progress and prepare for the test, while the manual is a great resource in itself.
