Congratulations to Amanda Stott, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors with Wasatch Wine Academy in Utah!
"I am purely an enthusiast! I’ve always enjoyed really good wines, and after moving to Salt Lake City in the spring of 2015, I decided to take some of the many courses offered by the University of Utah through its Life Long Learning program. I was surprised at the breadth of classes that were offered! Through this, I met Sheral Schowe and the rest is history! It’s been quite a journey, but I’ve really enjoyed learning about the grapes, and the terroirs, and the production methods – all the stuff that makes me kind of a wine geek! I’ve just completed, and successfully passed my IWS Unit 2, so I’ve got that behind me as well! I took FWS right between the two Italian courses – that actually required some “shifting” at the beginning of FWS and then again at the beginning of IWS! Interesting to know about the two countries and their wine laws and overall approaches (different as well as similar) to their wines.
I’m not currently enrolled in anything – I thought it was good to take a bit of time off! FWS taught me good study habits – I’d gotten out of practice. But I am interested in the CSW course – one of my instructors had just completed that. I am simply looking to broaden my knowledge and enjoyment of wines from all around the world. I’m confident that the FWS course will serve as a firm foundation for any future learning that I do. Several of us from the FWS have formed a group that meets almost monthly – we are always looking for new ideas, and new wines to try – its so much fun!
I’ll definitely continue with my wine studies – knowing about wine has allowed me to enjoy them so much more. The Spanish Wine Scholar is a possibility – as well as some more directed studies that WSG offers in the field. This whole endeavor has really just begun!"
