''I am a (fairly new) wine professional – I have been working as a buyer for just over a year at a shop specializing in artisanal Old World wines. I came into the industry after years of working in restaurants and developing a deep appreciation for wine – as a compliment to food, as a way of traveling the world just by opening a bottle, and for the way it unites and bonds people. I aspire to continue acquiring as much wine education as I possibly can – more than anything, I love sharing wine knowledge with people, regardless of through work or leisure.
The WSG French Wine Scholar Program is the first wine certification program I have undertaken – after lots of deliberation it seemed like the best fit, based upon my interests and what would suit me professionally. Due to the rigorous nature of the program, I feel as if I am exceptionally prepared for other courses involving French wines – a necessity for any serious wine professional. I plan to seek various other certifications in the future, althought I am still deciding exactly which ones. And I am looking forward to the Italian Wine Scholar class this fall!
The FWS class has allowed me to have 100% confidence when conversing with people about French wines – and showing confidence in oneself inspires confidence in others. I feel truly engaged and excited to discuss French wine with customers, and my enthusiasm translates into them being excited, as well as being more willing to explore and experiment with all of the wondrous and unique wines of France. Though I am still new to the industry and unsure of quite what I want for my future, the FWS program has been instrumental in even further stoking the passion and reverence I have for the wines of France.''
