Congratulations to Alexa Sanford, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Alexa:

Coming from a family that doesn’t drink alcohol, my passion for wine started later in life when I moved from the US to France and was able to travel to its gorgeous wine regions. My first wine tasting was in Vouvray and I was instantly enamored with the sight of the vineyards, the energy of the wine festivals and the taste of Chenin blanc which persists today.

When I moved from Paris to Amsterdam I really missed the ubiquitous nature of wine in France: wine shops around every corner, restaurants with wine lists that read like novels. I shortly joined a wine club that hosted weekly wine tastings and from there did the WSET 2 and after the WSET 3. FWS has been very complementary and allowed me to gain a more in depth knowledge of French wine and viticulture. What’s more, it’s given me the itch to do the Spanish Wine Scholar.

In 2020 with a friend we co-founded Viticult, a wine club to further wine education and develop wine events in Amsterdam. We started organizing themed guided tastings for individuals and professionals. FWS has pushed our knowledge of wine further so that we are able to organize more qualitative tastings and events in order to share our enthusiasm with other wine lovers and professionals.
