Congratulations to Amy Moore, FWS for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with honors with our program provider Taste & Compare Wine Academy in Portland, OR.

About Amy:

''I am a wine enthusiast. I recently got to pour for an Alliance Francaise Bastille Day celebration tasting in downtown Portland, OR. We served wines from the Loire Valley and I worked alongside my friend and teacher Maxine Borcherding of the Taste and Compare Academy and Ed McDonald of Elevage Wines. It was a day of fun and good wine and great company.

I lived in Southern Spain from 2006-2009 and traveled around Europe rather extensively. However, I have a plan to return to France to participate in a harvest. I want to walk through the fields and experience the hard work and following celebrations first hand.

This is my first and only certification so far. I will take more classes in the future for sure. It is a fun and fascinating education program. I am interested in learning about Italy and Spain and potentially some Masters Level work, depending on where I find my passion or where I decide to harvest. It would be nice to learn detailed information about the places I go first hand prior to my arrival and have a more intimate knowledge about them. I also want to take trips to some of the wine destinations offered through the Wine Scholar Guild.

I have a conversational French CD in my car right now so hopefully I can brush up on that a bit as well! I just finished reading Wine & War by Don & Petie Kladstrup and I have such a huge appreciation and fascination for the French people and their deep history. I was deeply moved by their compilation of stories and testimonials and they will forever be ingrained in my heart and have given me a better understanding of the importance and love for wine in France.

I plan to continue volunteering my time to facilitate various tastings and sharing my knowledge with others. It was a great feeling to pour wine and tell guests about the terroir and history behind the wines. It’s one thing sitting in a classroom and learning and tasting. It’s a whole new feeling sharing that information with others and it felt really good. I thank you for giving me the tools I needed to be able to do that. I am honored to be a part of the FWS family and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a love for the vine.''
