ABOUT CARRIE:
''As the mother of six and the grandmother of eight, I have really done my career backwards. Although, I have liked wine for a long time, I have really gotten serious about wine and my wine career in the last seven years.
I own a restaurant/wine bar called The Funky Door in Lubbock, Texas. I realized that I needed to educate myself in order to be able to choose wines wisely and to be able to help guests and staff with selections. In my search to expand my knowledge, I found The Court of Master Sommeliers, I began to study and took my first test in San Francisco in 2012. I was hooked and have been in love with the study of wine ever since.
I took my Certified CMS in 2013 in Seattle and hope to sit for my Advanced CMS in 2018. I signed up for FWS to help me to have a well-rounded grasp on France. I absolutely love France and believe that all wine study begins and ends in France. The online course was incredible, and I learned so much more than I anticipated! I had great instructors at The Napa Valley Wine Academy that helped bring it all together in an insightful and entertaining way.
I know the course will help me in my Somm educational journey, with pairings, as well as to be a better educated buyer of wine. I teach a Summer Passport Series and now I am really excited to teach all about France, even Jura and Savoie! FWS has been the single best choice I have made for my wine career and education, by far! I would love to someday be an instructor.
We are planning on opening several more restaurants in the next few years. I hope to continue in my studies of certification. The Wine Scholar Guild is so very helpful, The Court does not really have curriculum and so it is great to have this course available. It will be instrumental in my future success; I just wish I had found it earlier!
