Congratulations to Ee Loong Toh, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors with the Lim Hwee Peng School of Wine!
About Ee Loong:
In 2012, I joined the wine importation, distribution and storage business founded by my father and uncle with another business partner. Thanks to their influence and generosity, I had been enjoying wines for many years before that as a consumer. As I gained exposure to other wine professionals, I wanted to gain knowledge about wines beyond my company portfolio and to get a more structured understanding of the growing of wine grapes, the making and selling of wines.
The more I have learnt, the more I find there is to learn. I hope that my continuing wine education journey can help me to understand new trends and developments in a more holistic way.
Prior to attending the FWS, I had attended and passed the Certified Specialist in Wine course and then the WSET Level 3. The FWS program added much more depth to my understanding of French wines as both prior courses were aimed at establishing a strong, broad foundation through a general, global coverage of wines.
French wine, particularly Bordeaux and Bourgogne, are an important segment of the Singapore fine wine market. However, aside from casual reading and tastings, I was not very familiar with French wine as my company’s portfolio is not focused on wines from France. Attending the FWS program has given me more confidence to engage with my customers. It has also allowed me to connect with the wider community of FWS graduates in Singapore that also attended the course with the Lim Hwee Peng School of Wine.
