Congratulations to Elizabeth Dames, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Elizabeth:

I am currently the owner/operator of a wine consulting company called Wine Entwined in which we curate unique virtual and in-person wine tasting experiences, wine paired dinners, wine excursions, and building/selling private cellars. Additionally, I am the Sommelier/Wine Director for Capital City Club in Atlanta, GA. I run their wine programs, including purchasing, staff training, executing service, and planning all wine events.

I found my passion for wine in 2013 when I started working as the Food and Beverage Manager for a private club in Pittsburgh, PA. I had a great mentor, Justin Kolanz, who encouraged me to take some wine classes which ultimately changed the course of my career. I was originally intending to become a General Manager of a private club, but when I discovered my passion for wine, I simply couldn’t get enough, and changed the direction of my career to focus solely on wine.

I aspire to become both a Master of Wine and a Master Sommelier and have my company Wine Entwined grow to be a highly regarded consulting company in the world of wine. And finally, I hope to one day be one of the experts teaching and contributing content for the Wine Scholar Guild!

I am an Advanced Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, and Wine and Spirit Education Trust Level 3 certified. FWS helped me focus my attention on the smaller/lesser known regions of France like Southwest France, Provence, Languedoc, and the Satellite regions of Bordeaux. I had a habit of spending all my time on the big regions like Burgundy and Champagne and had pretty large gaps in my knowledge of the smaller areas. I feel much more confident and prepared for future exam and/or customer questions on the lesser-known areas!

I am currently enrolled in the D1 Unit for WSET Diploma, and plan to submit my intent to sit for the Master Sommelier Theory Exam for 2022. French Wine Scholar has given me an excellent foundation and has already helped in my preparation for questions I could see for both WSET Diploma Unit D3 and Master Theory. The deep dive in soil and history of the FWS were particularly helpful!

The FWS program has already helped in my career! Following my passing of FWS, I have had the opportunity to host several private virtual tastings with Wine Entwined, and when the client chooses a French theme I am able to spend much less time preparing and feel extremely confident for the lectures/events because of the in-depth study, and the rich content of the program!
