    About Erik:

    “Although my current day job is in engineering, I continue to be drawn further and further into the wine field because of how it combines numerous different aspects of science as well as life. To me, learning about wine is learning about the world. I cannot think of any other field that encompasses history, culture, traditions, geography, agriculture, geology, climate, technology, and people in the way wine does. I originally developed a deep passion for wine while traveling in Europe. Today I find that wherever I travel, if I approach things from a wine perspective and ask questions related to wine production and consumption, I can quickly gain a thorough understanding for the environment and culture – even outside the field of wine. And this brings me tremendous joy and fulfillment.

    I am a Certified Sommelier through The Court of Master Sommeliers and also hold a WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. My FWS studies took place simultaneously with Unit 3 (Light Wines of the World) of the WSET Diploma program, in which I am currently enrolled. I feel the FWS program provided a great foundation into French wines in particular, as well as Old World wines in general since much of the EU’s wine regulations are modeled after the French system. I believe this will be immensely helpful as I continue my WSET Diploma studies.

    The more I learn about French wines, the more I realize how little I really know. It is an amazingly vast field, but also extraordinarily interesting and exciting. And my appreciation for French wines continues to increase in parallel with my knowledge and understanding.”
