Congratulations Flavio Lorenzelli, FWS for passing the French Wine Scholar with the highest honors with our program provider The Wine House in Los Angeles!

About Flavio:

''I am an electrical engineer, born in Piemonte but living in Los Angeles, California, USA, for now 27 years. I grew up surrounded by vines, but never really drank wine until I moved to California (I know, hard to believe in retrospect). I started drinking socially and quickly became interested in what made wines so different. I started reading, I bought wine lectures on DVDs, then finally I enrolled in wine courses. I still consider myself simply an enthusiast, and I have no plans to get in the wine business. What I can say is that my wine education has really enhanced my interest in viticulture and viniculture, as well as the pleasure I experience drinking and exploring wines from the world.

I have been taking WSET classes. The latest one was WSET Advanced, which I passed with distinction. I am planning to move on to the WSET diploma, if my own work schedule permits. I am currently enrolled in the Italian Wine Scholar Unit 1. I would really enjoy continuing on to IWS Unit 2 and the Spanish Wine Scholar course, when they are available. Because I do have a full-time job and also teach college courses at UCLA, my time is limited, but I do intend to continue my wine education. The FWS program has been extremely interesting and it has complemented my knowledge about French wines tremendously. I think that the course was very well organized and extremely informative. This is what convinced me to enroll in the Italian Wine Scholar program.

The information I learned about France, its wine regions, and its wines, has been an excellent guide in my own personal exploration of French wines. I remember the days when in a restaurant I would be staring at a French wine list with no clue as to what to order. Now I feel I can make my own decisions, entertain a discussion with the sommelier, know what to expect from a wine, and appreciate the food and wine pairings so much more.''
