Congratulations to Gagan Sharma, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Gagan:

Gagan SHARMA is a Certified Sommelier (CMS), a WSET DipWSET and Wine Educator and has been a wine professional in India from the past decade. He has been a key wine educator, commentator, and consultant in the industry. He also nurtures and guides the future top sommeliers in the country through the Indian Sommelier Championship which will soon take on its 12th chapter. He was also amongst the only two wine professionals to be certified by Wines Australia to offer their certification programs in the country.

Gagan’s journey in wines started at the Institute of Hotel Management, Jodhpur, and then took him for his Masters in Hospitality Professional Practice at Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia, where he worked at a wine-centric fine dining restaurant, while studying wines professionally, and visiting the major wine regions of the country. upon
his return to India he started working with producers, hotels, restaurants, embassies, importers, and wine professionals closely and pursued his higher education in the
discipline becoming amongst the youngest DipWSET receivers in the country at its time and also amongst the first to have received the Certified Sommelier title from the
Court of Master Sommeliers, UK.

Now, with his new venture at reinventing India’s only wine school, Institute of Wine + Beverage Studies (IWBS), he aims at recreating India-centric wine programs and
deliver them with the highest quality and professional regard. He’s also spearheading the formation of India’s first and only Sommeliers’ Association, soon to be recognised
by the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale, where the wine professionals and sommeliers in the country will come under a single umbrella in nurturing and growing
together each other’s potential and professional standard.

He soon plans to re-initiate his pursuit at gaining the Advanced Certified Sommelier at the Court of Master Sommeliers, UK, which he first attempted a few years ago.
France is a technically challenging subject to attempt for any wine professional, with such depth and intensity in every aspect. FWS has simplified the subject and offered
information in a technical yet logical format with insights in to the history that makes it fun, anecdotal, easy to remember, and interesting. The knowledge presented in the FWS study program has become a quintessential guide to learning about France, its wines, history, and food.

Gagan has not been to France yet, but has studied FWS program, now he wish to visit and explore the wine offerings the way they have been presented in the course. It has rekindled his joy of studying and exploring the vinous world again. Most importantly, simplifying the subject, it will be essential for him to hold on to the study material during the future wine certification programs like the Advanced and Master Sommeliers certifications. He's also keen now to study the IWS and SWS programs and probably take the Masters Level courses too. Also, with a possibility of offering the courses in India, he will be pleased to work with the Wine Scholar Guild to learn about their approach while designing the programs.
