Gregory Pont, FWS

Congratulations to Gregory Pont, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors with WiSP, Bordeaux.
About Gregory:
I’m a wine enthusiast ! I started to get really interested in wine when I moved to Bordeaux 5 years ago to run my guest house, starting to discover the Bordeaux vineyard through all the wine-related activities available in the region. Now I love to learn more about all aspects of wine. Vinification, terroirs, tasting… This is an area of such complexity and diversity that we never tire of it! More in-depth knowledge helps me to better understand my tastes and to orient myself more easily through the styles of wines that I like and to vary the pleasures by setting out to discover unknown terroirs or styles. It also adds a little game to the tasting by trying to detect the wine-making process, the impacts of the terroir… And finally it’s a great way to share with people!
I took my WSET Level 3 with merit a year ago which allowed me to better understand the winemaking process and the criteria that influence the quality of wine and also to have a quick overview of the wine regions of the world. The very rich and detailed FWS program was what I needed to deepen my knowledge of French wines, terroirs and AOCs and lay the foundations for discovering new wines. I'm glad I did these 2 trainings in this order.
During my FWS program, I discovered wine regions and styles of wines that I was not used to taste. It was a great opportunity to discover their specificities, to broaden my horizons and to cultivate a taste for novelty and discovery! As a native French speaker, taking my FWS course in English allowed me to learn wine-related vocabulary and to be able to share my passion with my
guests who come mainly from abroad.
