Congratulations to Jinhyuck Yang, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Jinhyuck:

I’m a wine enthusiast. My love for the wine was bottled 2 years ago and it has been gradually aging. I once worked in the wine industry and quickly I realized I aspire to be a wine instructor based in South Korea. I’m having a kind of gap year by fulfilling military service as an Auxiliary Police officer and planning to study about the wines as much as I can during my duty. My aims are to teach the wonderous wine world and spread the wine culture in my country. I have a belief in the saying “The more, the merrier”.

Before having passed FWS, my only certification was WSET Advanced Level.  So I can tell you that there is no doubt taking the WSET program is a great way for you to learn the representative winegrowing regions of many countries. However, if you are digging into the wines of France, FWS program is the one as FWS program solely focus on the winegrowing regions of France. The FWS study manual delivers the core knowledge all about the wines of France from vineyard to cellar by covering History, Law, Climate, Topography, Geology, Soils, Grape varieties, Viticulture, Winemaking. Learning these basically solves most of questions that start with “How?” and “Why?, which means you will be likely to have a good confidence about what you know with regard to the wine world of France. Plus, knowing the working of producers and processes that the wines of France undergo will make you feel able to learn the winegrowing areas of other countries, especially ‘New World’. Many producers in the winegrowing areas of the New World have taken the ideas and concepts from France and have applied to their vineyard when initiating farming and business.

Having broad and in-depth knowledges of unique terroirs within the winegrowing areas of France boosted my level of appreciation with the wines of France. I’m certain that the asset that I acquired from FWS program will shine through when I enroll to the Champagne-Master Level, Bourgogne Master Level, and WSET Diploma within 2 years.
