Congratulations to Kaidi Xiao, FWS, for achieving highest honors in the French Wine Scholar exam with Melbourne Wine House.
I am a wine enthusiast but also work in the wine industry. I have become interested in wine since I moved to Melbourne, after visiting some wine regions in Australia I wanted to learn about how to taste wines. I took WSET Level 1, 2 and 3 courses in Melbourne Wine House, and obtained Level 3 certification in 2019. I started working in the school I learnt about wine in early 2020 when I decided to join this industry, which was an amazing change for me! While working in Wine House, I continue studying about wines and took the FWS course last year which I really enjoyed and achieved a pleasing result.
As mentioned above, I have WSET Level 3 certification, I passed the exam with “Distinction” in 2019. I found the FWS focused more on the specific wine regions including history and culture, which explains the reason for the wine styles that area has developed into, it’s more in depth. I have always been fond of French wines, and now I am able to explain them by looking at the labels.
I may consider doing the Spanish Wine Scholar and/or Italian Wine Scholar, or one of the French masters if I can fit them into my schedule.
It has increased my confidence in introducing wine courses to students, and recommending French wines to people around me, it has also aroused my initiative of studying more wines courses. To become a wine educator has always been one of my goals, and now I will be able to teach FWS course soon.
