Congratulations to Kimberly Trainor Tschantz, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Kimberly:

I am simultaneously a wine enthusiast and professional! My love for wine started while working at a country club as a summer job. I was always fascinated with the different flavor profiles for each varietal. Fast forward to present day and I’ve been selling with Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits for 9.5 years. I am currently servicing the hotels in downtown Chicago; representing our wine and spirits portfolio.

I currently am CSW, WSET II, IWP (Italian Wine Professional) certified. Passing the FWS has made my wine knowledge more well rounded. It’s no secret that French wine is intimidating so feeling comfortable speaking about different regions is valuable in a sales environment. SGWS has such an extensive wine portfolio and it helps to “know a little about a lot”.

I plan on taking the Spanish course soon!

My clients are among the most experienced somms in the city and the current state of the hospitality industry has left them under staffed and over worked. If I have the opportunity to present wines I cannot waste their time. The FWS program has given me the tools to identify opportunities in their beverage program and make thoughtful suggestions. The goal is always to add value. I often think of the Theodore Roosevelt quote “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.
