About Kristina

I’m a certified sommelier (CAPS) and a tea sommelier (THAC) who worked in the Ontario wine industry for ten years prior to becoming a professor.  My experience includes working  in management at Peller Estates Winery Restaurant and as Retail Manager at Trius Winery, serving as sommelier at both properties.  I now teach hospitality students in the sensory lab at Niagara College.  We have a winery, brewery and distillery on campus and we truly focus on applied learning!  I aspire to continue my studies with the Wine Scholar Guild by enrolling in the Loire Master Level program.  At the college I plan to continue to research wine and other beverages and engage in future wine travel experiences with my students.

I found that the FWS program provided the detail that I was looking for to enhance my studies on wine.  It was a healthy challenge and I found that this program offered exactly what I was looking for in terms of detail.  The resources were phenomenal and everything was user-friendly and up to date. I also appreciated the various formats in which it was offered; the guided online version worked well for me personally.  I am taking the Loire Master Level program.  The trips also interest me, as do some of the other programs offered.

I consider the value of this program multifaceted.  In my career it aids in providing more content, detail and stories to share in my lectures and tasting labs.  It will also provide opportunities for study trips with the students.   On a personal level, this program has strengthened relationships with friends that were my study partners and also rekindled my passion for wine education.  I feel inspired and a proud sense of accomplishment.  Studying online during the pandemic with two young children at home certainly had its challenges, but it also offered the opportunity for personal growth.  Thank you for providing this program!
