Congratulations to Nicholas Jeremy Forsey, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!
I have been someone that enjoys drinking and learning about wine for many years but it is only recently that I started enrolling in some courses to further my knowledge and appreciation. The way that the history of wine is woven into the fabric of our civilization, and the breadth and depth of the subject fascinates me. The more I learn the more I feel I am only scratching the surface. There are so many regions to explore and grape varieties to discover with the stories that go with them and end up in the bottle.
I have previously taken and passed the WSET Levels 2 and 3. I felt the FWS course added an extra layer of depth to my knowledge of the different French wine regions, touching upon the history of each and going into greater detail about the main soil types, appellations and grape varieties.
I am currently considering enrolling into the Italian Wine Scholar program with a view to taking the WSET Level 4 diploma at a later date. I think the Wine Scholar programs will provide a solid foundation for going on to take the diploma.
I feel the FWS program has broadened my understanding of French wine, whetting my appetite to try new wines from regions I’m less familiar with as well as continue to enjoy wines from those I know with a deeper appreciation. Taking the course has undoubtedly increased my desire to join some of the wine study trips in the future, to visit the regions and vineyards first hand , enjoy the wines at their origin and learn from the experts!
