Congratulations to Philip Wong, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar with highest honors!

About Philip:

I am an accountant-turned wine specialist. The attributes of an accountant reinforce me to look for evidence in each wine I tasted that expresses its origin and reflects the underlying culture, climate, soil, winemaking practice and beyond.

My passion lies in wines from all around the world. As an MWM Wine School Educator, I have been teaching WSET courses and organising tasting workshops with regional focuses and a speaker at numerous local and international wine fairs and events. I have my own wine blog and contribute articles to newspapers and wine magazines regularly. I am also a wine and management consultant to various restaurants and hotel outlets in Hong Kong.

Having attained DipWSET in 2018, I was awarded the Wine Australia Prize for the Asia-Pacific region. I have also done Italian Wine Scholar last year.  Now I am a Master of Wine student.  Both the IWS and FWS programs complemented my various wine studies with concrete regional specifics.  I will surely go for the Spanish Wine Scholar as my next step.

Specifically, not only has the FWS program reinforced my knowledge about the fundamentals of such famous regions as Champagne, Bordeaux and Burgundy, but also opened my eyes about those lesser known regions or appellations like Savoie, Jura and Corsica, with treasures of indigenous grape varieties producing wines of strong sense of heritage.
