About Rory:
I consider myself a wine enthusiast. I am passionate about the wine I drink & share with friends so I consider wine education to be fundamental in its appreciation. Since retiring from my career in engineering in 2019 I have taken the time to enhance my wine knowledge. WSG has been an important element of this journey.
My initial studies were in WSET level 2 & 3. I then undertook the WSG Spanish Wine Scholar in 2020 which I really enjoyed & then completed the FWS earlier this year. I enrolled & am currently undertaking the WSET Level 4 Diploma since August 2021.
I’ve really enjoyed the online format with WSG. I was surprised how interactive it was with world class tutors. The online platform was easy to navigate & the portal for Q&A was extremely useful. The SWS & FWS were excellent to improve my knowledge in European wines, regions, etc. This has allowed me to transition into the WSET Level 4 with better confidence.
The FWS was provided me with an excellent knowledge & understanding of the French wine regions, it’s wines, growing environment & history. I was so enthusiastic after completing the course that I took a driving holiday around the vineyards of Champagne, Alsace, Burgundy & the Loire Valley. I’m already planning my visit for next year. It’s also given me the conviction to undertake further education (WSET Level 4 Diploma) as well as taste & discuss French wines with greater confidence.
