Andrea Eby, IWS

Congratulations to Andrea Eby, IWS, for passing the Italian Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!
About Andrea:
I work as a manager and buyer for Banville & Jones Wine Co., one of Canada’s leading wine boutiques. In addition to my role at Banville & Jones , I am also a partner and instructor at Wine & Drinks College Manitoba, the provinces leading provider of drinks education. I have a Bachelor of Education and teach WSET, WSG and Sommelier classes at the WDCM. I am also honoured to sit on the judging panel for the International Wine & Spirits Challenge in London, England. I am a passionate advocate of Italian wines and it was this passion that led me to complete a stage at Tolaini vineyards in Chianti Classico. The contacts and relationships that I have developed during my time in Italy have fuelled my inspiration to learn as much as I possibly can about Italy and its wine.
I have earned my Diploma (with distinction) from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust. I am a certified sommelier through the International Sommelier Guild and a Certified Specialist of Wine through the Society of Wine Educators. The Italian Wine Scholar program has been instrumental in providing me with a level of knowledge that I simply had not been exposed to previously. I appreciate the breadth and depth of knowledge that is required to successfully complete the program.
I intend to pursue the Master of Wine designation and foresee the knowledge being indispensable in achieving this goal, particularly as I intend to focus my research paper on the wines of Italy.
As a result of taking the course I now have a more complete understanding of the Italian wine industry. This knowledge is sure to prove instrumental in my role as a buyer of Italian wines and as an instructor of upcoming wine professionals.
