Gavin Cameron, IWS

Congratulations to Gavin Cameron, IWS, for passing the Italian Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Gavin:

I have always been interested in wine and transitioned from working in hospitality to becoming a wine professional. Among the Italian wineries in my sales portfolio, were two world-class family owned producers – Sartori di Verona, Veneto and Ricasoli, Toscano. Their history and stories inspired me immensely. Having recently retired from wine sales on Vancouver Island, I continue to learn and use my passion for wine to stay connected with other professionals and enthusiasts in this field.

I have also completed the International Sommelier Guild (ISG) Diploma, French Wine Scholar (Honours) and Spanish Wine Scholar (Highest Honours).

Having developed a solid foundation in Italian wines through the ISG Diploma, the IWS program took my interest and knowledge in Italian wine to a whole new level.  Created by the Wine Scholar Guild and expertly delivered by instructor Alan Tardi, the IWS program provided a comprehensive and current representation of wines and wine regions of Italy.  It emphasized the unique characteristics of each wine region, gave me a thirst to visit each one and will definitely be a factor in making future travel decisions!

Having completed both the SWS and the IWS while “physical distancing”, I’m looking forward to complementing my studies by travelling to these countries so that I can experience these amazing regional environments and their food and wine offerings, “in person”.

Having completed the IWS program, which extensively covers the history, climate and geography of Italy, I will continue to promote “themed” wine tastings and wine-pairing dinners, where we can emphasize and appreciate the connectivity of regional wine and food pairings.
