Jonny Tyson, IWS

Congratulations to Jonny Tyson, IWS, for achieving highest honors in the Italian Wine Scholar exam with West London Wine School.

About Jonny:

I am a wine and beer educator and co-own a wine school in London. I have worked across the industry over the years from running wine shops and restaurants, worked as a sommelier as well as in wine distribution. I love bringing my knowledge, passion and experience to my students and customers. I love the opportunity wine gives to explore a country or region and when I travel, visiting vineyards and tasting the local wine and food is essential to my plans!

I have studied wine throughout my career and completed the WSET Diploma and Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier qualification in 2013 in Vancouver, Canada while I was working there in restaurants and wine retail management.

I have also completed both the French and Spanish Wine Scholar qualifications (Highest Honours) which I loved doing.  Having studied these, it was an easy decision to go on to do the IWS. The WSG courses are a great compliment to my other studies as they take a different approach that really gets to grips with the food, culture and history of the regions and countries. This approach really captivates my interest and gives a much deeper dimension to studying wine.  They also cover appellations and grapes that other studies gloss over or miss out completely. The study manual is something I can refer to time and time again as it is a complete reference guide to the myriad wine regions and grapes.

My career is in wine education, hosting wine tastings as well as more formal classes. The IWS program has given me a great knowledge, understanding and confidence in Italian wine and has helped me in teaching and hosting tastings where Italian wine is featured.

I hope over the coming months to teach all the WSG programs in my school and am excited to launch the IWS prep course to introduce the fascinating world of Italian wine to a new audience.
