Mark Annett, IWS

Congratulations to Mark Annett, IWS, for passing the Italian Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Mark:

I am “officially” retired but for the past 5 years I have worked at wineries pouring wine for people, listening to their stories and telling some of my own as it relates to wine.  I would describe myself as a wine enthusiast – maybe a wanna be professional. I get a lot of enjoyment telling people about wine and hopefully providing them some education, even if only to a small degree.

Prior to completing the Italian Wine Scholar, I had completed the WSET level 3 with distinction and the French Wine Scholar and Spanish Wine Scholar courses. I plan to take some of the master level courses from Wine Scholar Guild in the future.

The Wine Scholar Guild courses have provided me with a great opportunity to further my knowledge. The IWS course in particular, opens your eyes to the many less common varieties that thrive in Italy and are, in their own way, just as appealing as the “big” names like Sangiovese or Nebbiolo. I think we need to have these less common varieties around to remind us of the great diversity in wine styles. There is a wine for everyone.
