Congratulations to Scott Daniel Weiss, IWS, for passing the Italian Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Scott

I fell in love with wine when I was in college, when I was fortunate to spend a semester in Südtirol in northern Italy. I most recently worked for a family business bringing the regional wines of Italy to DC, especially with a focus on the delicious wines of Umbria’s Montefalco area. I am now taking my learning beyond Italy (but also learning to remember why I love Italian wine so much) and hope to one day own my own wine shop bringing delicious wines to the masses.

I have taken levels two and three of the WSET program. By going in depth into each region of Italy, the detail on indigenous grapes and winemaking traditions in each region has enriched the contextualized (in the broader wine world) information about Italy – and given me a leg up on some unique winemaking techniques that originate in Italy.

I am currently enrolled in the French and Spanish Wine Scholar programs with the Wine Scholar Guild. I also plan to begin my WSET Diploma studies soon. Knowing the Italian wines will help me see that the European wine world doesn’t stop with borders, that while each culture brings its own contributions, the agriculture runs deep.

The IWS program will help me seek out new and unique wines from Italy to share with friends, family, and customers all alike. That’s the beauty of Italian wine, even if it is your job, it is a labor of love!
