Congratulations to Katherine Galliano, SWS, for achieving highest honors in the Spanish Wine Scholar exam with West London Wine School!

About Katherine:

I live and work in London in Human Resources, although home for me is Gibraltar where as a teenager I was introduced to Spanish wine by my father. A few years later I was taken by my uncle on a wine tour in the Napa and Sonoma Valley and was fascinated by how each wine we tasted was unique in some way, and every bottle had its own story behind it. On that tour I bought myself a beginners guide to understanding wine and read it from cover to cover, fascinated by the whole process of wine making from grape growing to labelling bottles.

After spending the best part of two years completing a post grad in HR, I was keen to pursue my enthusiasm for wine tasting and signed up to the WSET Level 3 advanced certificate which I passed.

The Spanish Wine Scholar course this year, provided me with a far more in depth understanding of Spanish Wines. For me though, learning about how the history of the country has shaped the wine industry there, and the geography of the country made the program even more interesting.

When I had to self-isolate after a trip abroad before the summer, I completed a short online Champagne course and am keen to learn more now, so considering the Champagne Master Level programme that the Wine Scholar Guild runs. For the moment, whilst travel abroad is still pretty restricted, I am enjoying trying English Sparkling wines and visiting vineyards in the UK!!
