Congratulations to Marta Chiavacci, SWS, for passing the Spanish Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Marta:

My passion for wine started as a child.  My father made his own wine and I have very vivid memories of watching him and my uncles make wine each year.  It wasn’t until I moved to Italy that I immersed myself in the wine world.  It was there that I began my wine studies.

In 2005 I received my sommelier designation in Italy and in 2007 I won the title of FISAR Sommelier of the Year, also in Italy.  After that I added Certified Specialist of Wine and French Wine Scholar to my qualifications.  SWS is the most recent program that I completed.  As my sommelier studies were in Italy, Italian wine was the focus.  SWS is the perfect addition to my European wine knowledge.

Several years ago, I was in the Burgundy Master program.  While I did the entire course, I never got around to writing the exam.  This is something that I would like to rectify.  I would also be interested in other specialized courses, Sherry for example.

I have enjoyed all of my Wine Scholar Guild courses.  I have a great passion for wine and wine knowledge.  I find the courses that are offered to be well presented and the online option makes it easy to fit them into my schedule.  While wine is not my career, it certainly is a fulfilling hobby.  I work with the Vancouver International Wine Festival each year as a VIP Somm.  This allows me to share my passion with many people.  Something I hope to do more of.
