About Mauricio:
I majored in Electrical Engineering in 2007. A few years later I was bitten by the wine bug and then decided to abandon my job to open a wine e-commerce (VinumDay) along with two partners. Soon, wine became my whole life. The bread and butter and the pleasure to crown the moments of joy.
Today, more than 10 years later, I’m also involved in producing wine – in a brand called Sfiria - and in education as well, teaching certifications courses for WSG, WSET and ISG at Escola Celebrare.
Besides SWS and FWS, I’m in the last step towards finishing the WSET Diploma. I’m also an educator for ISG and I’m currently enrolled in their Diploma as well.
Regarding the SWS, I think it is a very thorough program, that showcases in-depth knowledge not only about the current status of the wine regions of Spain, but also about the historical, climatic and geological aspects that shaped the wine production of each place. Also, I have to confess that I wasn’t aware of how huge the diversity of wines produced in Spain is! DOs like Ribeira Sacra and Lanzarote never appeared in my previous studies about this country.
I’m planning to attempt the IWS this year, and I’m very excited about the launching of GWS.
I think the SWS helped me to rediscover a passion for learning. Wine is much more than a product of techniques applied in a vineyard or in a cellar, and the SWS material shows that. It’s one of the most complete study guides I’ve ever come across, and yet it is an effortless read.
