Congratulations to Sanna Westerlund, SWS, for passing the Spanish Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Sanna:

I am a higher education professional with a passion for wine. For a very long time I mostly enjoyed wine for drinking and preferably paired with good food, but a couple of years ago I decided I would also like to get to know more about wine in a more systematic way, which lead me to seek out possible wine programs.

I have passed the WSET level 2, which I did before completing the SWS program. I felt the WSET level 2 gave a good basis for further wine studies and also helped with understanding the content of the SWS program in more depth. After passing the SWS program I jumped onto WSET level 3, which I have now finished, but I am still waiting for the exam results. As the WSET level 3 contains a large portion of study of different wine regions, the SWS program definitely helped as I was very familiar with the Spanish wine regions and did not need to cram these again for WEST level 3. This was very much an advantage for me since I am pursuing wine studies at the same time as working full time in higher education.

In the future I am planning to enroll in the IWS program as I very much like Italian wine and would love to know more about these too.

After passing the SWS program I have loved to seek out different kinds of Spanish wines and my interest of Spanish wines has also extended into looking into wines made from typical Spanish grape varieties, but outside of Spain. It is nice to compare! I also use my knowledge of Spanish wine to promote the many different wines that Spain offers to friends and family. I always have a Spanish option to recommend for every possible occasion. The program also has made me realize that there is a lot more to learn and I am very much looking forward to doing so in the future. And maybe my passion for wine could also evolve into something more professional someday.
