Congratulations to Zinta Ozolins, SWS, for passing the Spanish Wine Scholar exam with highest honors with the West London Wine School.

About Zinta

I am very enthusiastic about wine!  I began wine tasting many years ago, when a friend and I decided to take a course at a local Adult Education College on our way home from work.  The course was great fun, and I really enjoyed learning about different grapes and wine regions.  As hoped, the course helped me become more informed and adventurous when buying wine.

I wanted to fill in some of the gaps in my wine knowledge, and decided to do a formal, structured wine course.  I came across the WSET study programmes and successfully completed Levels 2 and 3.

I continued to attend many informal tastings, and discovered the West London Wine School, which also ran wine study programmes.  I love Italian food and wine, and am intrigued by Italy’s huge number of indigenous grape varieties.  WLWS offered the Italian Wine Scholar course, which would allow me to really dig into every wine region and sample a large number of wines from each.  I found the IWS course highly enjoyable and educational, and the Wine Scholar Guild online modules were really useful to complement classroom learning, especially when revising for the exam.  I was very pleased to pass both units with Honours.

Towards the end of my IWS course, the Wine Scholar Guild began to offer the Spanish Wine Scholar study programme.  I also love Spanish wine, and so decided to enroll.  I’m very glad I did, as I’ve discovered many more wines I hadn’t heard of previously, which I now enjoy drinking and recommending to friends.

Having enjoyed and successfully completed the IWS and SWS study programmes, I hope to join a French Wine Scholar course post-pandemic, when we are allowed back in the classroom again.

I’ve really enjoyed exploring Italian and Spanish wines in depth, and wonder if I might take my enthusiasm to the next level, by studying for the WSET Level 4 Diploma.
