Congratulations to Yvonne Davis, FWS for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors with northwest wine academy in Seattle !
"I am 100% in love with wine! I was a Story Producer working in Reality Television in good old Hollywood and was not happy. I kept dragging my friends out to wine bars/events and they couldn’t understand my infatuation with wine. That’s when I realized my enjoyment of wine might be more than just recreational fun. I decided to take the plunge and packed up my stuff and drove to Seattle. I choose Seattle because I felt it would be tough to break into Napa and Sonoma with no wine experience. Plus, I heard that Washington State was the wild west of wine! I thought that would be perfect and exciting for me to explore. Immediately upon arriving in Seattle I called the Northwest Wine Academy and Reggie Daigneault, who was the Wine Director at the time, told me to come down and check out a class that started in 15 minutes. I took her up on the offer and haven’t looked back. It’s been 7 years now and moving to Washington and getting involved in the wine industry was the best decision I ever made! Today I am the Operations and Marketing Director at Kerloo Cellars here in Seattle. I work closely with our winemaker Ryan Crane and feel my wine education is definitely an important asset to my team here at Kerloo.
Besides taking classes at Northwest Wine Academy up here in Seattle, I’m also have an Advanced Level WSET certificate and am planning on pursuing Diploma level soon! The WSET is pretty intense since you cover every region in the world. I felt the FWS program was a great asset in regards to concentrating on one region (for me it was France). Being able to explore Frances wine regions with more depth and understanding was extremely enlightening. You really delve into the various AOC’s, soil types, and various wine styles. I thought the class was a great asset and think it will definitely compliment my WSET Diploma level pursuit.
As mentioned, I work at a winery full time and am about to embark on pursuing my WSET Diploma level certificate. FWS is a great tool in any wine education pursuit. I highly recommend the program. Whether you are on the Somm or Wine Education path, FWS can aid in gaining deeper perspective into the main wine regions.
FWS is a clear and in-depth way to learn about the important wine regions of France, Italy, or Spain. I believe it’s important to keep your wine knowledge up to date and current. In the short 7 years that I’ve been in the Washington wine industry some rules, climate, terminology, and even wine trends have changed and evolved. As a wine professional, knowledge is power, and in wine you can never stop learning. Plus, it’s a ton of fun, so why wouldn’t you take your wine knowledge up a notch or two? It’s a real no brainer. Cheers!"
